To the Ones I Love
Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love. 1 Cor 16:13
Paul’s parting comments in his letter to the Corinthians is sound advice. Something I’ve said in different words when my kids have left for a trip, mission work or moved away. I know I heard similar words from my mom. A list of important things to say to be sure the ones you love are going to be ok if we are not going to be with them.
No different for Paul: • Be on your guard. There’s an evil world out there; ready to harm you spiritually, emotionally or physically. Be aware and guard yourself. • Stand firm in the faith. Remember your teachings, stay in fellowship and be in God’s Word. • Be courageous. So many are ready to condemn or persecute you for your faith. Be courageous in sharing your faith. • Be strong physically, emotionally and spiritually. Don’t let others bring you down. • Do everything in love. Above all remember the great commandment. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your mind and all your soul.
God, as I stand at times on my own without the support of family and friends, I can stand strong in you.
